February 21 @ 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

$10.00
Irish Memorial

Come discover who started Philly’s revolutionary percent for art program and see samples of city public art and sculpture you may never have noticed before.

Jim Murphy, author of “Real Philly History, Real Fast,” takes you on A Fast, Fun Look at Philly’s Awesome Public Art & Sculpture 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Historic Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church.

See public art from the Art Museum area –
across center city to the Washington Ave. Pier

Murphy’s slides will take you all the way from “Joanie on a Pony” near the Art Museum to the Dream Garden Tiffany Mosaic, in center city, to the Irish Memorial and the Military Memorials near the Delaware River down to Land Buoy at Washington Avenue Pier …and many more in between.

“I promise you views of artwork that you probably overlooked before,” Murphy says. “I believe you’ll marvel at the unique art and sculpture we see in Philly every day. Plus you’ll learn things about people like Charles Willson Peale, Henry Ossawa Tanner and Dr. Albert Barnes I doubt you’ve ever heard before.”

“Great Talks at Gloria Dei”

This program, part of “Great Talks at Gloria Dei,” will take place inside the church sanctuary. After a short Q&A there, a Meet-and-Mingle reception will follow in nearby Riverside Hall – where Murphy will answer questions and sign books for sale. For a modest donation, you can sample delicious gourmet desserts paired with wine, coffee or tea at the reception.

This program is hosted by the Historic Gloria Dei Preservation Corporation. One hundred percent of the funds raised from this event will go toward the preservation of Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church and its graveyard.
