A Summer Evening of Song circa 1850 Performed by the 2018 Jenny Lind Scholar

June 8, 2018 @ 7:30 pm 9:00 pm

The Royal Stockholm School of Music has selected young Norwegian soprano, Kine Sandtrø, as the 2018 Jenny Lind Scholar! Kine is currently studying opera at the Royal School of Music in Stockholm. She will be accompanied by Julia Sjöstedt who is studying piano at the Academy of Music in Stockholm.

For one night only, this talented pair will recreate a summer evening of song from 1850 when the original Jenny Lind sang at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church.  Join us for a program of Nordic folk music and Opera arias in the near-perfect acoustics of Pennsylvania’s oldest church!

Not Familiar with Jenny Lind?
The first real international superstar, like Beyoncé or Lady Gaga, was a woman known as the Swedish Nightingale.Possessed of an incredible soprano voice, Jenny Lind traveled all over America with her pianist and baritone supplement, singing to sell-out crowds. Because of her immense popularity, tickets had to be auctioned off to hear her perform. Those who saw the movie, “The Greatest Showman“ know something about her, but the historical figure is even more interesting!
